New research shows that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is getting really good at hearing what we often hide behind speech. It can pick up clues about personality, mood, anxiety, or depression just by listening to someone talk.

The choice of words (are they more positive, or more gloomy?) adds more data that AI can analyse. These tools aren’t trying to replace therapists. Instead, they help therapists notice things humans may miss, making assessments quicker, more precise, and more helpful. But there are challenges: the AI must be trained on many different voices (ages, genders, accents, cultures), otherwise it might get things wrong or unfair.
